Google Glass for Nurses

By Lanee’ Blunt

Octovis, Inc. a Nashville-based company is testing possible applications to make Google Glass more efficient for doctors and nurses. There have been other companies applying for opportunities in Google Glass healthcare, also.

Some people had said that nurses and doctors wearing glass could be more of a distraction, and have complained that it looks cyborg-ish.

This technology would make it easier for nurses to access patient information, and access the right dosage of every medication. With Glass writing notes in charts by hand or entering information on patients into a computer would be obsolete.

It will simplify an emergency room visit because of the information that glass could collect, such as MRI’s, and not have to excuse herself from helping a patient to collect the information.

Nurses would be able to benefit by not having to stop working on a patient just to access information that they need, and could answer the phone quickly if their hands are gloved and dirty without having to use a cell phone. Nurses can text and receive updates on the screen.

Nurses must collect a lot of information about the patient by hand and then must transfer that information to a computer. This can simplify the interaction with patients and the amount of time that it takes to collect information.

Octovis is developing software that can help nurses and doctors during surgical procedures-by allowing them to access CAT scan screens and other patient images at the surgical table.

Google Glass is available in prescription frames, and the cost is about $1,500.00.
