The best nursing apps that can help nursing professionals and nursing students are on mobile. Most nurses are using smartphones and can use the apps without having to worry about carrying a computer because they can be downloaded to a smartphone or a tablet.

Voalte must be installed at the hospital or nursing home that you work for. It can be used on an iPhone, iTouch, iPad or smartphone with the long-term care facilities WiFi internet connection.  Each nurse gets an user profile where you will be able to log into using your smartphone. The app will provide critical care alarms and alerts, text messages to your team, and customized ringtones. The pre-canned text messaging that is sent throughout the day allows nurses to spend more time caring for patients.  You will have access to information; the app is like a computer with tons of information, but the convenience of having it on your smartphone.

Davis Mobile: NCLEX-RN Med-Surg

With this app you can study for the NCLEX anytime you want it has over 1,000 questions.  Some of the features are that it can analyze your strengths and weakness and then it creates new quizzes from those results that will help your performance. Customize your own quizzes. It lets you review your progress and analyzes your results by the content area, integrated process, and cognitive level. Prepare for the test with alternate item format questions, and you can email your scores. It is available in Android and Apple formats.

Nursing Central

This app has many features. It is very helpful for nurses and students because it allows you to look up information on diseases, test and procedures.  The drug reference guide provides information on thousands of brand name and generic drugs.  The medical dictionary has over 65,000 terms, color illustrations and over 100 videos.  There is a diseases and disorders edition that has over 250 conditions that may be encountered in nursing practice.

This app is available on multiple mobile platforms such as iPhone, iPad, Android and other smartphones. The app has many features in its free version. The app has comprehensive information on thousands of brands of prescription drugs, a medical calculator, clinical medicine outlines, and clinical news and the latest clinical trial results.

Nurses Pocket Guide

This app can make a diagnosis and develop an effective care plan for your patient.  The diagnosis that is given on the app includes the definition, related factors, actions/interventions and rationales that are arranged in a convenient outline form. One advantage to the Nurses Pocket Guide is it is very helpful for students because there is a lot of information on basic nursing practices including sample care plans and tips. It has a pill identifier which will let you quickly identify a stray pill. Get information from the drug interaction guide and it has a lab test reference.
