CNA certification training prepares students for careers in health care
facilities. Nursing aides or sometimes called nursing assistants give direct
care to patients by helping them with their basic living activities. They
generally work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, hospice, and homecare.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the population of the elderly is
growing and there is a need for many nursing assistants in long-term care
facilities.
Requirement for Admission
The
distance learning program requires that students have a high school diploma. Students
should have basic computer skills. A nurse’s aide must earn a post-secondary certificate in which the basic principles of nursing will be taught.
Program Description
It
requires that students be computer literate and have access to a computer. The
program can be completed in a short period of time some programs can be completed
in 6-to-12 weeks. The courses include introduction to health care, nursing arts
I, II, III, and an externship, other institutions offer similar classes in clinical
courses, convalescent care, nurse assistant class, home health aide course, and
acute care nurse assistant courses.
The Program
There
is work for each week is assigned and you must have it done by the due date. Computer
work for each week is assigned and students must complete each assignment by
the deadline. In some community colleges lectures and video presentation are on
the internet for the students so they can learn the procedures and techniques
to become a nursing aide. You will be required to have your clinical either in
a facility that the community college suggest or some require that you
volunteer at a local hospital or nursing home.
