How to Get Free Hospital CNA Training

By Lanee’ Blunt

There are some hospitals that offer free training because they may have a staff shortage. Some hospitals may have an agreement with a nearby community college in which you will be trained there.  Certified nursing assistant training is a program that can be completed in 6 to 12 weeks and after training you must take a state test and become certified.  Most CNA’s that work in a hospital are full-time employees and are required to work all shifts, including nights, and weekends.

Salary

They are paid on an hourly basis. They generally earn between $8.45 to $16.22 per hour,  according to PayScale.com. They may work some holidays. The average salary is $24,010 a year. The pay may vary depending on the amount of experience you have. Nursing assistant’s usually get benefits such as paid holidays, medical, sick leave and a vacation. The average range for a certified nursing assistant is about $10.00 per hour to $12.00.

The Advantages

Most hospitals pay for training, licensing exams and most fees. Another benefit of training is that students will have a job when they become certified.

Free courses

A hospital will provide free of charge training to students contingent upon you accept employment at that healthcare facility after graduation. These programs are basically the same with the exact requirements for certification and when the program is completed you must take your state examination and become certified. The students are then trained after signing an agreement stating that they will work for that particular hospital after receiving certification.

Program

Hospital training must consist of a curriculum that will prepare students for the state certification exam. Some of the course work includes medical terminology, introduction to health care, nursing arts I, II, III and clinical courses. Classes include communication, infection control medical skills, various roles and functions as working in a hospital. You will learn the basic principles of nursing, and complete supervised clinical work. Hospitals spend a great deal of time teaching nursing assistant students about detailed theory, practical knowledge and guidelines of the hospital. Students learn: Safe patient care, getting and recording the patients’ blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, first aid for choking, and assisting in everyday living including hygiene, applying safe and proper techniques with moving patients and completing medical forms and bedside charts.
The training prepares students to take the state certification examination and to work in a hospital environment. A certified nursing aide works closely with patients supplying basic care services as and is a great opportunity of getting into the medical field. There are a lot of Registered nurses that began their career as a nursing assistant.
